Subfamily Heliconiinae.: A largely pantropical group, with one of the five tribes found in the Holarctic Region.

Tribe Acraeini: There are two Afrotropical genera contained within this tribe; Telchinia and Acraea, both represented at Semuliki. There are 138 described Afrotropical species within this tribe with 104 species recorded in Uganda. At Semuliki a total of 45 species from both genera have been recorded: 25 from the genus Telchinia and 20 species of Acraea, contributing to a third of the Ugandan species total.
Genus Cymothoe: There are 15 species of the Afrotropical genus Cymothoe so far recorded at Semuliki from a.continent total of 78 (Williams, 2018) and a Ugandan total of 17 (Williams, 2015) or 90% of Uganda's total. The two Ugandan species not being recorded at Semuliki being C. distincta and C. indamora, but with both these species being recorded either in the Ituri Forest or Semliki Valley (Ducarme, 2018) it is a distinct possibility that they will also be found in Semuliki. Only three species are frequently sampled in traps and these are C. sangaris, C. cyclades and C. confusa. This genus has been categorised into clades nd the most commonly trapped species C. confusa had a distinctly clumped distribution within Semuliki. Species from this genus were observed more in the forest midstorey as compared to the preference of the forest floor for the genera Bebearia, Euphaedra and Euriphene.

Genus Acraea
A largely pantropical genus, with 239 Afrotropical species described with 109 species recorded in Uganda (Bernaud et al., 2019). At Semuliki a total of 49 species (22 subgenus Acraea and 27 subgenus Actinote) have been recorded. Four extra species (A. endoscota, A. eltringhami, A. cabira and A. ventura) have been confirmed at Semuliki (Bernaud pers. comm) since the Forbes (2018) species list. The Semuliki species total contributes to just under 50% of the Ugandan species total. The Albertine Rift zone of endemism (that includes Semuliki) - with a distinct zone of endemism that includes an area uniting the two arms of the northern rift - contains the richest diversity of Acraea species at 127, with 30 of these being endemic - 17 (Actinote) and 13 (Acraea), (Bernaud, 2023).

Recently, from detailed research of historic and current taxonomy classifications of the Acraeinae by Bernaud, (2023) there has been a proposed classification describing a monophyletic genus (Acraea), with two subgenera: Actinote and Acraea, (127 taxa, including subspecies) and Acraea (182 taxa, including subspecies). Using quantitative phylogenetic analysis and gene sequencing, they concluded that the Afrotropical, Neotropical and Asian Acraea appear to a monophyletic clade, with the exception of the epaea group. Phylogenetic trees of divergence show the Acraea subgenus as consumers of Passifloraceae (a family of shrubs, vines and trees) and the subgenus Actinote, consumers of plants other than Passifloraceae. Species have also been categorised into groups (19 for the Ugandan species representatives), but for simplicity these will not be replicated here.
Subgenus Acraea. Comprising 50 species recorded from Uganda with 22 species recorded from Semuliki.

A. leucographa cannot be readily identified from A. endoscuta using external traits only. Genitalia dissection is required for confirmation. Margin shape and the presence of the white section near the tornus can point towards a species or sex but these characteristics cannot be considered reliable for definite identification.
